It is not good to doubt yourself. While there certainly is a time and place for self criticism, getting too heavy with it can be fatal. Anime art is always stylistic, and that is largely the point of it. So, go ahead and let yourself play with the various styles. You clearly have the skill, as the number of people who watch and favorite your work should attest. I can relate, though. I don't do anime art, generally, I do equines. My horses are always very stylized and in impossible colors, which is a bit off, because the main trend in equine art is to try for photorealism. I, too, have often wondered if I do that for the sake of creative expression, or to eclipse the fact that I am really not that good at drawing horses.

I really like that you have used the watercolor tool again for this piece. It softens it, gives it more of the sentimental look that you were trying for. Cel painting, as I think you called it, would again be too harsh for this piece.

How long has it been since you have played with watercolor anime art using traditional materials? I browsed through some of Yoshitaka Amano's art yesterday, and thought of the piece that you did of Joshua. Granted, you should not browse his art if you are still down on yourself because he is the master of watercolor anime art and even brings industry pros down on themselves, but he takes his art in a direction that it seems you are leaning towards. It transcends mere anime character design. It is truly fine art.

I look forward to seeing more from you in all styles and media, but I especially like the softer trend.
